Starting a new business, like doing a book launch is one of those things people talk about like it’s all sunshine and strategy meetings.
But let me tell you what it really feels like.
It feels like you wake up one morning and suddenly there’s a whole circus tent in your living room, and you’re the only one who can’t figure out how the tent poles work—while everyone else is already juggling.
Because a book launch is not “one thing.”
It’s a million facets, all moving at once, and somehow they all require you to coordinate the planets.
There are the:
Editors (usually with notes that make you feel like your book is suddenly in surgery)
Layout specialists (who speak in PDF sizes and formatting spells)
Graphic designer (who needs the right file at the right time with the right “version” of your right file)
Social media specialist (who asks, “Which platform are we focusing on?” like that’s a simple question)
Website designer (who’s building the launch page while you’re still trying to remember where you saved the cover)
Launch manager (bless her heart, but now you have a timeline and a spreadsheet and… reality)
And then there is me.
You know… the ADHD all over the place old lady. Or shall I say seasoned.
Because I’m not “great at multitasking.” I’m great at starting five things and finishing none until the fifth thing starts feeling like a personal attack.
Can I keep two balls in the air?
Sure. For about six seconds.
Can I keep all the balls—editors, graphics, logistics, marketing, email sequences, autoresponders, live event setup, post-launch promotions—spinning like I’m a professionally trained circus performer?
No.
But here’s the thing: I quit drinking 30 years ago.
And I’m pretty sure if I were still drinking, I would be too hungover to upload anything—let alone manage a launch.
Instead, I got sober, and with sobriety came clarity, practice, and eventually a system.
The Marketing Maze: “Which Platform??” (And Why Are There Logins for Logins?)
Let’s talk about marketing for a second.
Marketing is not one lane. Marketing is a highway where every exit has different rules, different logins, different passcodes that you swear you wrote down, and different “we changed the settings again” surprises.
You’re trying to decide:
- Do we do Instagram first?
- Are we focusing on Facebook?
- What about YouTube?
- TikTok?
- Email list?
- Freebie?
- Ads?
- Lives?
- Groups?
- Stories?
- Posts?
And then there’s uploading.
Because you don’t just upload your book once.
You upload to:
Amazon
IngramSpark
Other places that “should be the same,” except they’re not
And each one wants a slightly different file
And each one has its own little temper tantrum
Then comes the emails and autoresponders:
Welcome emails
Pre-launch sequences
Launch day messages
Post-launch follow-ups
Thank you emails
“Are you still there?” check-ins
And the live event setup?
Oh my word.
Time zones. Links. Reminders. Descriptions. Waiting rooms. Sound checks. People actually showing up.
All while your brain is whispering:
“This is too much. We’re doing nothing.”
Good News: I Found a Way to Manage It (Years Ago)
Here’s what I want you to know: overwhelm isn’t a character flaw.
It’s a brain signal.
And when you have ADHD, overwhelm can hit like a wave especially when you’re juggling a “must do everything perfectly, right now” moment. Years ago, I figured out a way to manage things consistently. And I’ve been using it ever since which is also why I wrote my next book about it. Because it’s not just about getting through the launch.
It’s about rewriting what happens in your mind when you feel the panic rise.
The 3G Method: Rewire Your Brain Instead of Freezing
My method is called the 3G Method.
It teaches you how to rewire your brain so that when everything feels like chaos, you don’t immediately flip into fear and do nothing.
Instead, you start seeing it clearly. You stop spiraling. You start adjusting. You learn to reframe the moment into something useful.
Here’s the key reframe:
When your nervous system says “Oh no!”—you learn to ask: What’s the growth opportunity here? I call it an AFGO: Another Flipping Growth Opportunity. Not in a cheesy, motivational poster way. In a real, practiced, “my brain is trained now” way. Gymnastics Perspective: From Hands to Feet Let me explain it with something I love—gymnastics. If you’ve ever watched a gymnast flip, you know it’s not random.
They change perspective to get from one position to another. They don’t wait for their brain to feel ready. They train to keep moving—even when the world looks upside down. When you’re launching and your brain screams “OH NO,” you’re basically in the middle of a flip.
And the old response is:
gasp
freeze
“I can’t”
“This is too much”
“I’ll do it later”
But the new response is:
hmm
this is interesting
what can I learn?
what can I do next?
what’s one small action I can take right now?
Like someone on their hands learning how to get all the way around to the other side.
So If You’re Overwhelmed, Let Me Offer You This
If you’re staring at your launch checklist and thinking:
“I don’t even know where to start,”
“I’m behind,”
“I’m dropping balls,”
“Maybe I’m not cut out for this,”
I want you to hear me clearly:
You are not broken. Your brain is just doing what it was trained to do under pressure. And pressure is not the end of the story. It’s the beginning of your growth. With the 3G Method, you can move from overwhelm to action—not by trying harder, but by rewiring. And you can go from: freaking out, to doing nothing, to seeing the whole thing as an AFGO. Another Flipping Growth Opportunity. Maybe you want to try it too.
